A trinomial test for paired data when there are many ties

چکیده
Acknowledgments: We are grateful to the Editor and two anonymous referees for their substantive comments that have significantly improved this manuscript. Abstract This paper develops a new test, the trinomial test, for pairwise ordinal data samples to improve the power of the sign test by modifying its treatment of zero differences between observations, thereby increasing the use of sample information. Simulations demonstrate the power superiority of the proposed trinomial test statistic over the sign test in small samples in the presence of tie observations. We also show that the proposed trinomial test has substantially higher power than the sign test in large samples and also in the presence of tie observations, as the sign test ignores information from observations resulting in ties.

متن کاملRasch analysis of rank-ordered data.
Theoretical and practical aspects of several methods for the construction of linear measures from rank-ordered data are presented. The final partial-rankings of 356 professional golfers participating in 47 stroke-play tournaments are used for illustration. The methods include decomposing the rankings into independent paired comparisons without ties, into dependent paired comparisons without tie...

Background and aims: The circadian rhythm is one the most important biological rhythms that regulates the sleep-wake cycle and repeats every 24 hours roughly. This 24-hour cycle includes physiological and behavioral rhythms like sleep cycle. Any disruptions in the body’s natural rhythms can cause many problems, such as drowsiness, sleep deprivation, reduced physical activity, and mental functio...

Real option valuation methods overcome this problem with its efficient and flexible nature. Finan...
متن کاملCox model versus generalized logrank test for time–to–event data with ties
The Cox proportional hazards model is the standard tool for relative risk estimation and inference for survival studies. The generalized logrank (GLR) approach (Mehrotra and Roth, 2001) has been proposed as a more efficient alternative to the Cox model when the number of subjects is small and there are no ties in the data. However, ties will result if continuous data are grouped by rounding to ...
